Subject: Threatening behaviour

Hi Peter.

I thought I would let you know of a nasty experience I had yesterday while walking in the Landmark grounds. At 1710 I was walking along the path nearest to the Bowen Drive visitors car park heading from building 7 towards building 5 when I was startled by a man rushing past very close to me. I automatically said “excuse me”. He immediately turned towards me in a threatening manner and in a loud voice demanded to know what I wanted. I asked him if he lived in Landmark and he then started telling me to @#* off and moved towards me raising his fists and threatening to punch me and continuing to yell at me. I stepped backwards and he then turned away and started to walk towards to parking area. I was quite stunned and felt very threatened by his behaviour so just stood still. When he reached the end of the path he turned back towards me and started yelling again and raising his fists towards me. He then turned and walked across the road to Bowen Park where I lost sight of him.

He was probably in his late forties or early fifties, big build, about 175cms tall, bald in the middle of his head with bushy grey/brown hair around the edge of his head ( a bit like a monks tonsure) with a large bushy moustache. His spoke in a deep voice and with a ? eastern European accent. He was in dark trousers and coat and had a large computer bag slung over his left shoulder.

I felt very threatened by his behaviour and now don’t feel as safe in my home grounds. I have dealt with many violent criminals and mentally unstable people during my time running the Canberra Emergency department and never felt unsafe as I had the backup of security guards and the police. At Landmark I don’t have that support so now feel very exposed to threats posed by non residents walking through the Landmark grounds.

Kind regards,

Megan Pearson

At George’s suggestion, Megan also reported this incident to the AFP in Civic. Subsequently Peter had a similar encounter with the same fellow.
